Job Overview:

The Extraction Technician is a crucial role and will report directly to the Director of Formulation & Extraction. This role is responsible for the processing of medical marijuana plant material into final concentrated and infused products for medical patients. All medical marijuana products created at Standard Farms will be held to the highest of quality and consistency standards. The role is based in a highly compliant laboratory setting. An applicant for this role should be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, highly motivated, and detail oriented

Previous Experience:

The ideal candidate would have previous experience with cannabinoid extraction in a state-approved laboratory environment including familiarity with medical marijuana infused products, extraction techniques, and CO2 and alcohol extraction processes in particular. Other experience that Standard Farms is looking for in this role may include experience as a chemist, chemical or biochemical engineering in related fields including food processing, distillation, brewing, and essential oils. Ideal candidate should have experience working in a highly regulated laboratory that adheres to strict health and safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties


  • Responsible for the preparation, decarboxylation, extraction, and post-extraction processing of cannabis product in accordance with State and local standards
  • Performs all assigned duties required to ensure a clean and safe production facility
  • Follows all defined current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) to ensure the highest level of product safety
  • Completes the sanitation of all production equipment and tools including workspace, lab equipment, containers, and appliances
  • Assists with the creation of batch production records and labels in accordance with State and local standards
  • Assist with the weighing, packaging, labeling, and documentation of all products as well as the tracking of batch numbers, lot numbers, and expiration dates
  • Ensures the appropriate information is accurate and listed clearly in accordance with the State and local standards
  • Ensures consistency and efficacy of product through quality control testing and procedures
  • Works with local, State-approved laboratory to send samples for regular testing of extracted product and document all results for compliance with State regulations
  • Ability to master and control all equipment in a laboratory-type environment including GC, MS, CO2 extraction, bulk batch production, and portioning
  • Ability to work on process development and improvement and document all production and batch reports
  • Ability to follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Work towards meeting department goals around efficiencies, yields, and cost
  • Willingness to fill in and assist in other facility areas if necessary

Qualifications and Skills

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks – no previous convictions for possession, distribution, or intent to distribute a controlled substance
  • Ability to follow regulations through daily operations
  • Proficient in good documentation practices – research and data organization skills
  • Experience following strict SOPs
  • Acute problem-solving skills coupled with a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others
  • Ability to work on your feet for 8-hour shift or more
  • Must be able to lift 10lbs with each hand and pick up to 50lbs
  • Knowledge of medical marijuana law and medicinal benefits (Preferred)
  • Knowledge in pharmaceutical formulation and/or plant genetics (Preferred)
  • Expertise in subcritical and supercritical CO2 extraction methods as well as the purification, separation and isolation of various compounds (Preferred)
  • 1+ years of industry experience (Preferred)
  • 2+ years of laboratory experience (Preferred)


Bachelor’s or advanced degree in chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, natural sciences, or related fields preferred.
